Fire Prevention

The prevention of damage to the ecosystems by fires is a major undertaking during the dry season between February and June of every year. The ranger crew are the first responders to upon the detection of a fire. Fires are mostly human-induced due to illegal hunting or escaped agricultural fires.

Attacking fires requires trained and equipped personnel dedicated to this activity. Therefore, PfB ensures active presence of rangers in the savannas, which are prone to fires, and even in the broad leaf areas close agriculture lands that are being cleared. Again maintaining fire equipment and combating fires is a an expensive activity that must be attended to.

To aid in fire detection, PfB boasts a 60-foot Fire Lookout Tower set at East Gate. This tower has allowed observers to detect fires early, allowing for a less destructive fire event.
